The art of model making takes center stage at the Built to Scale: Auto, Plane & Boat Model Masterpieces exhibition at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center in Stamford, Connecticut, this summer.
What makes this 90-piece-plus collection unique is that the models, like the Maserati T-61 Birdcage and Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta, are all handcrafted (some from scratch) by some of the world's top model hobbyists.
"These one-of-a-kind, carefully customized, small-edition models are as different from mass-produced replicas as an original painting is from a poster,'' says co-curator Marshall Buck.
While cars are an integral part of the exhibit, the collection also features a Ferrari-powered hydroplane racing boat and several spectacularly detailed airplanes, including a Nieuport and a Spitfire ...
