Jul. 12--KETTERING -- IAP Research Inc. will help BAE Systems Inc. take another step to develop a revolutionary Navy cannon, IAP's president said Tuesday.

IAP, a Kettering company, has developed military and commercial products since 1981. A specialty has been the technology of electromagnetic launchers, or rail guns.

BAE Systems said last week it had received a $5.4 million Navy contract to build a laboratory rail gun for research, and a $9.3 million contract for technology and preliminary designs for a ship-mounted gun with twice the power of the lab model.
