Jul. 12--It's called the Clash of the Titans because it brings together several of Central Florida's top quarterbacks to match passing skills.

This 7-on-7 tournament will give quarterbacks like Cody Allen of Boone, Taylor Beasley of Lake Howell, T.J. Borcky of Lake Highland, Nico Ranieri of Cypress Creek, Taylor Salem of Winter Springs and Chris Wilkes of Dr. Phillips an opportunity to measure their talents against one of the nation's best -- Steve Garcia of Tampa Jefferson.

"That's one of the good things about it," Lake Howell Coach Matt Kemper said. "The kids can go out there and size up themselves against the competition."

The tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. Friday is reserved for practice. Games begin at 8 a.m. Flag-football rules are applied, and players do not wear helmets or shoulder pads.

"There will be some good players in this competition," said Dr. Phillips Coach Kevin Pettis. "Not just quarterbacks. What I like about the 7-on-7 is you get to see your kids go full speed at their position. It also gives your quarterback and receivers a chance to see coverages."

This is important for Dr. Phillips since Wilkes, a rising junior standout, missed most of the spring practices because he was helping the baseball team reach the regional finals.
