Section: Regional News - The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has criticised the European Union's (EU) trade commissioner Peter Mandelson's decision on imposing a new surcharge on children's shoes imported from Asia.
The decision was described as a way to protect jobs in the ailing shoe industry of southern Europe.
Under intense pressure from countries including Italy, France and Spain , Mandelson drew up the plan for anti-dumping tariffs on specific categories of leather shoes made in China and Vietnam.
