End of the USGP?
Bernie Ecclestone says he has no intention of offering less costly terms to Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Tony George as they negotiate renewing a deal for the USGP. Ecclestone told the United Kingdom's The Times newspaper, "It doesn't matter to Formula One if there's no Grand Prix in the U.S. What do we get from America? Aggravation, that's about all... We've never got any sponsors over there and the TV has never taken off-we have more viewers in Malta. If they want to continue having a round of the world championship, I'm happy to talk to them, which is what I'll do. But I'm not prepared to subsidize a race in America.''
Michelin says no
Michelin decided not to pitch for the F1 tire deal in 2008. The company, which will pull out of the series at the end of this season (leaving Bridgestone with a de facto monopoly in 2007), issued a statement in Montreal saying it had no interest in supplying tires without someone to compete against. The 2008 tire supplier will be announced July 5.
