Designing space for thought
' book review
JISC's guide to designing spaces for learning sets out considerations for the 21st century, which includes future-proof design for learning spaces. Increasingly, these spaces are multipurpose, with the library just one element.
The guide, which was written following JISC's work with Birmingham University on learning space design, focuses on how to seamlessly integrate tech-
nology into physical design and is illustrated by 10 case studies from further and higher education of leading-edge learning spaces. It outlines the key factors driving good design: a well-designed space can be motivational, allows for collaborative learning, and a permissive approach to technology access is essential.
The guide inspires with its own attractive design and use of photographs of inspirational learning spaces. Text
