Part of the requirements of the new Miami-Dade BMP program is that operators of silver recovery equipment must be properly trained on how to operate the systems.
The requirements take effect with the new permit cycle, May 1, 2006, and are minor. The photo lab must be able to document that its staff have been trained and are capable of answering simple questions about the silver recovery unit that is being used.
Inclusion of this requirement was the result of numerous photo lab inspections where the photo lab operator was not able to answer even simple questions about the silver recovery system. Sample questions offered by inspectors were: Where is the silver recovery unit? How often do you change the columns? These seemingly easy questions far too often proved too tough for the lab staff to answer.
