Jul. 5--Members of the Red Cross Club at Beverly Woods Elementary School in south Charlotte learned an important lesson last school year: Always pay attention, even if you're in a club after school hours. A member of the club, Maggie Stevens, put a Red Cross program to practical use in her home, helping save her mother from choking. Maggie, who recently completed fifth grade at Beverly Woods, was among about 20 Red Cross Club students who got a Heimlich maneuver lesson during a club meeting during the recent school year.
