South African President Thabo Mbeki arrived in Conakry this morning on his way from Banjul in the Gambia, where he attended the summit of heads of state and government of the African Union.

The South African Air Force presidential jet landed at the tarmac at Conakry-Gbessia Airport at 9.45 a.m.

Accompanied by some of his ministers, the president of the most powerful African state was met on arrival by Fode Bangoura, minister in charge of presidential affairs. …
