PITTSBURGH _ A dozen years ago, Ivan Rodriguez, then a young star with the Texas Rangers, crouched behind the plate as Kenny Rogers threw a perfect game. Teammates again on the finest Detroit club in years, Rodriguez and Rogers will represent the Tigers on the American League team in the 77th All-Star Game.
Rodriguez and Rogers learned of their selection Sunday at PNC Park, site of the midsummer classic on July 11. And they may be joined by a third Tiger. Justin Verlander, whose 10 wins have tied Rogers for the team and AL lead, could earn an All-Star selection as a rookie if he wins a special on-line fan ballot on MLB.com for the 32nd roster spot over the next several days.
