SOCSO should not blame employers for the 250,000 or so workers not covered by its insurance policies. Employers, especially small-timers who employ two to 10 workers, are put off by the complicated application forms and the bureaucratic procedures adopted by the Social Security Organisation.

Socso needs to understand that to get employers to subscribe to its insurance scheme, it needs to be applicant-friendly and simplify procedures. Employers and workers are well aware of the numerous benefits of Socso, but it is the application process that puts a damper on their enthusiasm.
