Jun. 29--Ninth- and 10th-graders at Evans and Jones high schools would have a longer school day and the option of after-school tutoring under new improvement plans the Orange County school district has devised for the two F-rated campuses.
Both schools also would issue "school-student-parent contracts" designed to show that academic success is a partnership. The sample Jones contract says, "No child at Jones High School will fall through the cracks."
Teachers at the schools already have been told they must reapply for their jobs. Only those showing a commitment to the struggling schools and a track record of success are likely to keep their positions.
