I. Language development unaffected by middle ear disease.
At the recent American Academy of Pediatrics research meetings, Dr. Heidi Feldman from the University of Pittsburgh presented an update of her research on the relationship of persistent middle ear fluid and language development. In her study group were 22 children, who in their first year of life had persistent middle ear fluid for more than 120 days. Using various methods to estimate these children's hearing abilities, it was found that this group of children did not differ from the control group.
