Jun. 28--MONCKS CORNER -- Berkeley County School Board members were bracing for a meeting packed with naysayers who would criticize the district's proposed budget and call for a lower tax rate.
Instead, fewer than 20 residents attended a public hearing on the spending plan Tuesday night and only five people voiced their opinion on the $167 million operating budget.
The board later voted 8-1 to adopt the budget, which represents an 8.1 percent increase from the current 2005-06 fiscal year budget of $154.5 million.
