Across from Corpus Christi, barrier islands stretch like a slender, curving finger along the Gulf of Mexico, forming more than 130 miles of beautiful beaches backed by sand dunes. Beach and surf enthusiasts, anglers and birders enjoy this area year-round.
Directly across Corpus Christi Bay, Mustang Island has numerous hotels and condos along the shoreline, though there are still a lot of open beach areas, including Mustang Island State Park. Some of the island is part of Corpus Christi. A funky oversized fishing village called Port Aransas sits on the northern tip of Mustang Island.
