This Victorian seaside resort wins my vote for one of the most romantic destinations in the state, combining the natural escapist appeal of an island with an excellent selection of accommodations and an exciting variety of attractions that appeal to both sexes. Cross the high bridge to the island and you can feel yourself slowing down, relaxing, escaping the workday woes. Tall oak trees, palms and big oleander bushes combine with the salty breezes from the Gulf of Mexico to create a tropical feeling.
