Houston's window on the water, the Clear Lake area long has been a popular escape for nautical pleasures. Located between Houston and Galveston, the area encompasses a number of small towns, including Seabrook, Kemah, Nassau Bay and League City, which are nudged against each other and clustered around Clear Lake and Galveston Bay. It's a sailor's haven, with one of the largest concentrations of boats in the country moored at about 20 marinas. You don't have to be a boating fan, though, to enjoy the waterfront shops, restaurants and entertainment for a romantic weekend. Accessed via Interstate 45 south, the area is about 25 miles from downtown Houston.
