Borrego Springs
(See also Julian)
In Borrego Springs, a tiny desert community at the entrance to Anza Borrego Desert State Park, you can enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the desert without a crush of people. Homesteaded by cattlemen in 1875, Borrego Springs was a stop on the Southern Emigrant Trail. With La Casa del Zorro Resort and The Palms at Indian Head, Borrego Springs is now a prime destination for today's desert lovers who want their luxury off the beaten path.
I highly recommend that you give this community a visit, especially in March, April, or May, when the desert flowers are at their peak and the weather is wonderful, or in the winter, when the desert cools and you'd like a fire in the evening. The best evening entertainment is watching the crystal-clear night skies for shooting stars. You can experience wine-and-roses romance at the Del Casa de Zorro, or camp at Anza-Borrego. The location is beautiful, and you can have a lot of fun and adventure here, without the hassle of crowds. For more information, visit their Web page at http://www.webpub.com/~Borrego.

Activities & Attractions
For desert flowers, no place in southern California is better than Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Call the visitor center at [telephone] (619) 767-4205 for an estimate of when the flowers will be at their peak. They usually start blooming in late February, peaking in March or April. By May, the cactus are finished flowering and are growing their colorful fruit, but the tiny "belly flowers" are at their best. They're called belly flowers because they're so low-growing that you need to get down on your belly to see them.
