Jun. 28--Currituck County will be able to sell ads in tourism guides, a policy that some private publishers say could hurt their business.
The Currituck County Tourism Board decided Tuesday that publishers could bid on producing promotional guides for the county and sell advertising for a profit. The county would not get any proceeds from the project.
But ads could be sold for less than they would by private publishers, said Mary Ann Williams, publisher for Three Dog Ink, LLC, based in Kitty Hawk.
"It makes it difficult for a small business, a small publisher to compete," she said.
