Jun. 27--The Orange County School Board is gearing up for a fight over how to fix Maynard Evans High, a nearly all-black school mired in poverty and academic decay. A two-year-long debate could come to a head tonight as the seven-member board discusses whether to repair the decaying campus or convert the freshman campus several miles away. Right now, classes are split among two sites in Pine Hills -- the 48-year-old main campus on Silver Star Road and the newer freshman center on Apopka-Vineland Road. The board plans to merge the two campuses eventually.
