Thelma Heine has spent most of the last 37 years in hospitals, and she couldn't be happier about it. Her volunteer work running two hospital gift shops has made her an expert on this unique corner of the retail world, in which effective management helps the sick to get well as cash registers ring.

Two of a Kind

Fort Wayne, Indiana is the home of both of Ms. Heine's highly-regarded shops. The 1,350-square-foot Atrium is housed within the Lutheran Hospital on Fairfield Avenue; its spinoff, The Atrium II, services the hospital's new branch on West Jefferson Boulevard.
