Advances in life sciences, especially the successful mapping of the entire human genetic code in 2001, look set to change the face of modern medicine and healthcare in coming decades, according to Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche.

In one of its recent publications on genes and health, Roche asserts that new techniques and knowledge derived from genetics, genomics and proteomics have allowed scientists worldwide to gain a deeper understanding of the molecular causes of disease.
