Nearly 40 percent of all private equity (PE) deals in India during Jan to mid-May 2006 belonged to the sub-$5 million category. Many of these were in unlisted companies.

Out of 53 PE deals, at least 20 involved investments of less than $5 million. There has been a growth in smaller deals, which is attributed to renewed activity on the venture capital (VC) front.
