Jun. 15--BRENT FRAZEE'S BEST BET Looking for some good fishing close to Kansas City? You have two options this week: Smithville on the Missouri side and Wyandotte on the Kansas side both are hot right now. The big news at Smithville is bass fishing. Tournament fishermen are catching plenty of fish and some big ones, too. At Wyandotte, crappies and channel catfish are creating a stir, with both species providing outstanding action. Missouri SMITHVILLE: 77 degrees, clear, near normal. Outlook: Burton's Bait and Tackle reports: black bass good to excellent on jigs, plastic worms along shallow tree lines in the upper arms and on grassy points on the main lake; catfish good on a variety of baits in the shallows; white bass fair to good on Pepper Spoons on the humps and road beds; crappies fair on jigs, minnows in the mouths of coves and in brush in 12 to 15 feet of water; walleyes fair to good on Shad Raps in 2 to 10 feet of water off main-lake points.

Outlook: Nemo Marina reports: crappies good on minnows in 15 feet of water along bridges and timber; white bass fair early and late on small spinners; bluegills fair on worms in the shaded coves.
