Today much of the world uses the Internet to access vast amounts of e-mail, research and shared documents and graphics. Users find government and business documents, manuals, data for children's projects, widely divergent views about the news, commerce for online purchases and a host of other applications available online.

For many, it is difficult to imagine living without access to online services. Access will soon be demanded by workers and residents everywhere. Those communities that cannot offer broadband Internet will find themselves at a disadvantage, losing residents, businesses and consumers to urban areas.
