Jeremy Nicholds, European sales and marketing director at MasterCard, has performed a dramatic U-turn on a proposed switch to the firm's US office in favour of a move to its fiercest rival, Visa Europe.

Nicholds had been due to join MasterCard Advisors, a subsidiary division of the credit-card firm that offers strategic consultancy services to its worldwide banking partners, early last month.
