Jun. 13--Officials with the county's largest volunteer fire department are asking Montgomery County Commissioners to help fund two paid positions to work on weekdays, reducing the response time.

"We don't have people during the day," said Jack Jackson, president of the board of directors for the Pike Road Volunteer Fire Authority. "A lot of our people don't work in the area. We do not have people on the job right in this area that can leave work and go and take care of a fire."

They requested $65,000 from the commission to fund an emergency medical technician and a firefighter to work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays when …
