Kicked to the Curb
** "Scott and I had been dating for six months when he said I could start moving some stuff in to his place. I was psyched that we were unofficially taking our relationship to the next level.
"That weekend, he helped me move a box of essentials over to his apartment, and the following Sunday, he suggested I bring some more things over. When I returned later that afternoon with my duffel bag, I saw that he'd put my first box out into the hallway in front of his door. I just figured he didn't feel like dragging it out to the curb.
When I got closer, I noticed a note on the box that read: 'Here's your stuff back. I don't think this is going to work out. Leave your key under he mat."--Tara, 27
Foreign Affair
*** "After we finished high school, my boyfriend and I got engaged. Shortly after, he joined the military and was shipped off to boot camp out of state. We wrote each other love letters every day without fail until he graduated. Once he finished training, he was stationed in Germany, and I missed him so much. But after about three months, the letters and the phone calls stopped, and I started to worry.
"Then one day out of the blue, his mom called me crying. I took a deep breath, preparing to hear that something awful had happened to him. Instead, she said that her son was breaking off the engagement because he had just gotten married to some German girl. I ran into him once when he returned to the States, and he had the nerve to ask me for the ring back. I told him I'd pawned it off."--Samantha, 19
