A Camping Weekend
Time frame: Two to three days
Head to camping.com, and make reservations at a campground in your state. Pack a pup tent, sleeping bags, and warm layers for chilly nights. But don't even think about roughing it. Throw down pillows in the car, tote travel-size soaps and shampoos, and bring citronella candies (you can buy them for under $10 at homedepot.com). They'll keep mosquitoes away.
Leave the 30-packs and canned beans at home, and bring a couple of bottles of red wine, juicy steaks, and a bag of gourmet cookies instead. To transport the beef from your fridge to the fire, pack it in a cooler with dry ice packs (it'll last for 24 hours this way), says Elias Iglesias, executive chef of Morton's, The Steakhouse, in New York City. When the sun goes down, forget ghost stories. Read erotica to each other by flashlight. One torrid page-turner is Tease, by Suzanne Forster, which comes out this month.
Alfresco Dates
Time frame: One night a week
When the weather gets warm, agree to eat only at places that offer outdoor seating. Scout out open-air joints in your nabe, or if you're in a major city, search "outdoor seating" on citysearch .com. Garden and sidewalk tables fill up fast, so make a reservation. Hint: Try date nights on Wednesdays to break up the Monday to Friday grind.
