Views on newest Ferrari
I'm impressed with the Ferrari 599's capabilities ("The Beast Within,'' May 22). However, a significant part of the legendary Ferrari allure is that, beyond performance, Ferraris have a visual presence unlike anything else on the road. This is where the 599 falls flat. The shape is uninspiring from the front, while the back end looks like a misguided attempt from Rolls-Royce or Bentley.

A loaded Corvette Z06 is priced around $70,000. The Ferrari 599 is estimated at $250,000. Both cars go 0 to 60 mph in about 3.7 seconds (0 to 62 mph for the Ferrari). In a road-course race, my guess is the Corvette would win based on better tires/brakes and overall balance. And GM is working on a hotter, 600-hp Blue Devil Vette for about $100,000-still less than half what Ferrari wants for a 599 that will be wildly expensive to maintain. Let's give the General some credit.

Bravo, di Montezemolo
I commend you on your recent interview with the president and CEO of Ferrari, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo (News, May 15). Much of what you wrote was a revelation to me, and I am sure to many other readers. His comments regarding 9/11 were striking.
