Still talking
Unification talks between Tony George (IRL) and Kevin Kalkhoven (Champ Car) continued through Memorial Day weekend, with Kalkhoven the guest of George at the Indy 500-but no word on what was discussed in the series of planned meetings.
The IRL, however, has apparently moved forward with at least one new track. League officials confirmed that a race at the new Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, will be held next season. A date has not yet been confirmed as the schedule is in flux due to the unification talks. A San Antonio street race also appears likely for 2007.
No F1 for Rossi
Multiple MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has decided against pursuing a Formula One career with Ferrari, and will stay on two wheels for the foreseeable future. Rossi's decision appears to have disappointed Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn.
"It would have been a nice challenge for us; very exciting,'' Brawn said in Monaco. "It's difficult to say what might have happened. He was very impressive in all the test runs we did with him.''
McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen is expected to join Ferrari in 2007, regardless of Michael Schumacher's retirement decision. If Schumacher quits, 2006 driver Felipe Massa could partner Raikkonen.
