2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Convertible
Date in fleet: April 24-May 1 As-tested price: $31,740 Powertrain: 3.9-liter V6; fwd, four-speed automatic Output: 240 hp @ 6000 rpm, 240 lb-ft @ 2800 rpm Curb weight: 3428 lbs Fuel Economy (EPA combined/AW observed): 20.9/19.12 mpg
LUU: There is nothing particularly special about this car. It does everything decently: accelerate, brake, corner, etc. But the retractable hardtop draws a ton of attention, from friends and strangers alike.
The trunk space is useless. With the top up there is only 5.8 cubic feet, and the trunk floor itself is open to the spare tire, so there's no flat storage floor. With the top down you can forget about the trunk; use the back seat. Top up, the ride is quiet and comfortable. I noticed little wind noise filtering into the cabin, and it is quieter than the Volvo C70 convertible (hardtop as well) I drove the day before. But when you open the roof, the Pontiac has a lot more wind buffeting around the cabin.
When it comes down to money, I'm not sure this car is worth it. A cheap Chrysler Sebring is one thing, but this G6 plays in the $30K class, where there is a lot more good stuff to choose from, cabrio or not.
