Jun. 7--University City is a long walk from uptown Charlotte, but the congregation at Grace AME Zion Church is taking a symbolic trip there.
The church, which is moving to David Cox Road from Brevard Street, will be the last historic church to have met in uptown's original Second Ward community. Grace AME Zion's congregation is one of many other African American churches that have moved out of the center city since redevelopments began in the 1960s.
