Tony Blair needs the skills of an escape-artist if he is to free himself from the chains now binding him. First of all, sleaze. The police are investigating how and why he bent the rules for raising money on behalf of his Labour party. Some donors appear to have been given a seat in the House of Lords, and others received government contracts. Then his tinkering with the health and education systems has maximized maladministration and alienated his party.
