Ofcom has appointed a headhunter to search for Stephen Carter's successor as the regulator's chief executive.
Carter will leave Ofcom in October. His deputy, Ed Richards, is tipped to replace him. However, Ofcom will also consider external candidates and has appointed Jan Hall of JCA Group to lead the search.
Ofcom said it wants to have a replacement in place to work on its annual plan for the 2007/8 financial year. The search will begin on 18 June, with national advertising for the post.
