A recent report by Public Agenda says American high school students lack the training and desire to enter fields in science or mathematics, including careers critical to United States economic competitiveness.
The report shows a disconnect between the expectations of parents and those of employers or college professors. While most families are confident in their children's schools, most employers and professors are dissatisfied.
Sixty-nine percent of parents believe when their children graduate from high school, they will be equipped with the skills they need to succeed in college, and 61 percent believe their children will be prepared for the work force.
