Motor industry YANKING THE CHAIN SA's car industry is running flat out but could trip over supply logistics South Africa's car plants are operating at the highest capacity levels in their history. The latest quarterly report by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA (Naamsa) shows that in the first three months of this year, car assembly lines were operating, on average, at over 92% of capacity.

Truck producers were even busier, at 95%. Light commercial vehicles, mainly bakkies, were less frantic at 76% but overall SA motor industry capacity utilisation is well ahead of international benchmarks.
