May 24--TAVARES -- Lake County schools posted uneven results for student performance this year on state achievement exams, according to scores for children in fourth through 10th grades released Tuesday by the state Department of Education.

Middle schools on the whole showed solid improvement. Reading and math achievement in the district increased in every grade by 2 to 6 percentage points, mirroring a statewide trend.

Still, their progress did not keep pace with their peers. Last year, Lake sixth- and seventh-graders were above the state average in reading and math on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. This year, only seventh-graders scored above the state average in math, with 58…
