British Library gives backing to US standard

The British Library is throwing its support behind the US National Library of Medicine Document Type Definition (NLM DTD) cataloguing archiving standard, with the aim of ensuring long-term access to electronic content. The standard defines the way in which electronic journals should be structured for archiving.
NLM DTD, which is also supported by the US Library of Congress, was released in 2003. Richard Boulderstone, British Library director of e-strategy and programs, said that, while NLM DTD is rapidly being adopted among US publishers, UK publishers are using a number of different standards.
