Medicine is set to become an information-driven profession to help prevent doctors making fatal mistakes based on poor or missing information, says a new report.
At present doctors cannot make an informed choice on the basis of
knowledge of outcomes, performance or cost of treatments.
During the 2004-05 financial year, there were around 974,000 reported adverse incidents and near-misses in the NHS.
