Oxford clarifies cuts agenda
Mark Chillingworth
There will be no compulsory redundancies at the Oxford University libraries as a result of its [pounds sterling]100m restructuring plan, acting director Ronald Milne has told IWR.
Milne confirmed a news report on the IWR website last month that 100 librarian posts would be lost, but said the cuts would be over a five- to seven-year period, muting the impact.
"This is not a cuts agenda," Milne said in response to fears that up to 200 posts could be lost. "A staff reduction of 100 posts will be lost, with no compulsory redundancies."
Oxford has an annual staff turnover of 20%, which Milne confidently believes will let it reduce staff numbers without compulsory redundancies.
