Listening to a poet read their own work helps to understand the motivations behind their art. The Poetry Archive is an online resource that provides access to digitised recordings of poets reading their work.
Despite being aimed at a general audience, the Poetry Archive is also a powerful resource for students and academics of literature.
The Poetry Archive is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to make poetry more accessible, relevant and enjoyable -- and to create an archive for posterity. There are no known recordings of some great poets, such as Thomas Hardy, and this archive aims to ensure that such a fate will never befall any modern poet.
Here you'll find a wide range of 20th century poets -- Adcock, Ginsberg, McGough, MacNeice and Pinter, to name a few. Some might be amused to find publishing whizzkid Felix Dennis here among such greats as Yeats and Tennyson.
