Cambridge Online gets pushy
New Cambridge Journals Online platform can be configured to deliver the content you want -- so you don't have to go searching for it. Mark Chillingworth reports
With the re-launch of its online journals platform, Cambridge University Press (CUP) has focused on a personal touch that enables users to select the content they want and then leave it to the CUP technology to deliver the results.
But does it deliver? In a word, yes, with the adoption of Atom and Really Simple Syndication (RSS) technology, CUP is following current trends and becoming a content pusher, rather than simply a source for content searching.
Personalisation and push technologies are becoming increasingly popular because they allow users to manage their information before it arrives, and to be alerted about new content. CUP has developed a wide range of personalisation tools, allowing users to save searches, favourite journals and subjects.
My Content Alerts is a comprehensive tool that enables users to select the frequency of the email alerts, including anything from daily to monthly, and the content.
