Business information specialist Datamonitor has acquired Verdict Research, a leading UK retail analysis company set-up by former Mintel editorial and marketing director Richard Hyman in 1984.
The company has also announced healthy half-year results, with group profits before tax of [pounds sterling]4.3m. The results are a remarkable turnaround from 2000-2002, when the company made losses of [pounds sterling]7.1m, [pounds sterling]2.7m and [pounds sterling]6.6m respectively.
Datamonitor will pay a maximum of [pounds sterling]4.7m for Verdict Research, with Hyman remaining at the helm for an earn-out period.
Datamonitor chief executive Mike Danson said the takeover will give it "real presence in this important market" -- the retail sector is one of six areas that Datamonitor specialises in, including automotive, energy, healthcare and technology. ...
