Will ALA be blown off course by Rita, Katrina and the waves?
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have blown a hole through the oil refinery, jazz and gambling industries in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi. But they must have also been responsible for sleepless nights for those brave people who organise the American Library Asssociation's knees-ups.
The ALA annual conference is a peripatetic thing, taking in many of the best party towns in the US, from Las Vegas to the Big Apple. The venue is booked five years in advance, and 2006 had come up trumps for New Orleans ...
