Midland Development nears deal to buy 35th Street center. (Midland Development Group Inc.)

Ten years ago, Mid-City Shopping Center was a bustling retail outlet that drew customers from all over Milwaukee's west side.

Today, Mid-City, 1201 N. 35th St., is tattered-looking and in need of repair. The northern portion, which used to house a tire and service center, is vacant and boarded-up. In the southern portion are several vacant stores. The parking lot was torn up and several underground storage tanks removed. The center's sign is faded.

This one-time neighborhood centerpiece could be restored, however, as Midland Development Group Inc., a St. Louis-based development firm, nears an agreement to buy the shopping center from Mid-City Center Limited …
