At its first sitting yesterday, the 8th Parliament voted unanimously to retain Edward Ssekandi and Rebecca Kadaga as speaker and deputy speaker respectively for a five-year term.

Former minister for the presidency, Dr. Beatrice Wabudeya, nominated Ssekandi while Kadaga was nominated by Nakawa MP Freddie Ruhindi.

In a show of political maturity, Ssekandi and Kadaga's nominations were seconded by independent MP Ben Wacha (Oyam north) and Okupa Elijah (Kasilo), while Forum for Democratic Change MP Geoffrey Ekanya (FDC) moved a motion to close nominations for Kadaga's …
