Akita police launch search for missing 7-year-old boy.

FUJISATO, Akita -- Police have launched a major search for a 7-year-old boy who went missing here on Wednesday after parting with friends at a local park, police said.

Police received a call from 39-year-old Fujisato resident Katsuhiro Yoneyama at about 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, saying his 7-year-old son Goken had failed to return home.

Prefectural police officers searched the area near the boy's home but failed to find him, prompting a full-scale search from about 5 a.m. on Thursday, with roughly 110 officers participating.
