May 19--MARTINSVILLE -- The Indiana Department of Transportation may change plans for improving Ind. 39 on Martinsville's southwest side in a way that would make it more useful for Monroe County residents driving to and from the Indianapolis airport or Interstate 65.

Instead of making it a five-lane road along the current route through the south edge of town, it would bypass the town to the southwest.

The road would run from a new Ind. 39 interchange to the west-northwest and connect with a new Ind. 39 bridge over the White River.
