May 19--What makes a teacher extraordinary?
If it's arranging to tutor a student who has a difficult home life, or challenging students while making them laugh, then Katy Coffelt qualifies.
Amid a drumroll and cheers, Coffelt, an eighth-grade language arts teacher at Jay M. Robinson Middle School, was crowned Harris Teacher of the Year for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Thursday night.
